The SBSE Board and Retreat Planning Committee is pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 2022 SBSE Retreat in Seattle, Washington. The theme of the 2022 Retreat is BIO-INSPIRED DESIGN: Biophilic, Biomimetic & Bioclimatic+ Perspectives and is scheduled for

  • In-person Registration: Seattle, WA
    • Wednesday, July 20: Afternoon Arrival / Evening Welcome Event
    • Thursday, July 21: Core Program (hybrid)
    • Friday, July 22: Core Program (on-site only)
    • Saturday, July, 23: Morning Post Event / Noon Departure

  • Virtual Registration:
    • Thursday, July 21: One day hybrid format
    • The 2022 SBSE Retreat is being planned with some online portions to maintain flexibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
    • We will be using Zoom for the core presentation sessions on (1) day.

The retreat will be hosted on the University of Washington campus in two adjacent buildings:

SCHEDULE

The schedule is organized in parallel sessions, with open times for conversations, informal gathering, optional tours, and brainstorming. For in-person presenters, if you are projecting a presentation, please bring a laptop with necessary adapters to connect to a projector. All attendees are encouraged to bring a computer and headset for online sessions.

REGISTRATION FEES

  • In-Person Registration Fee:
    • $250 Non-Members
    • $200 SBSE Members
    • $100 SBSE Student Members

  • Virtual Registration Fee:
    • $150 Non-Members
    • $100 SBSE Members
    • $25 SBSE Student Members

We've adopted an a la carte model to afford maximum flexibility during COVID times. The modest fee covers the cost of meeting rooms plus a light breakfast/coffee and lunch but not transportation, lodging, or dinners. Periodic updates will be sent to all participants as we near the retreat date, including updates regarding COVID protocols, etc.

COVID POLICY (Subject to Change based on status during retreat)

All in-person registrants and guests acknowledge the inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public or private space where people are present. By attending, you and any guests assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and your own costs associated with travel, lodging, and meals. The COVID-19 protocols will be updated and will remain fluid until the time of the event. At the time of launching registration:

  • Masks are strongly recommended at UW (as of April 26, 2022)
  • Vaccine verification requirements are in effect for UW in-person events including our retreat
  • Medical and religious vaccine exemptions are not accepted in place of vaccine verification
  • The following vaccines are accepted for verification and have been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or World Health Organization (WHO): Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, AstraZeneca, SinopharmBBIBP, Sinovac, Novavax, COVAXIN and Covovax.
  • The following are considered acceptable proof of vaccination:
    • CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, copy, or photo of the card that is 2 weeks after last recorded dose;
    • Documentation of vaccination from a health care provider or electronic health record;
    • State immunization information system record;
    • Electronic health record from MyIRMobile.com, WAverify.org, or other mobile app (includes Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination or QR Code)
    • For any individual who was vaccinated outside of the US, a reasonable equivalent of any of the above.
